Mario Club Weekly Newsletter
New Super Mario Bros. is a side-scrolling game exclusive to the Nintendo DS, starring Mario and Luigi. It is very much like the original Super Mario Bros. games, but the characters and enemies look more 3-D. Almost every Super Mario Bros. enemy and character has made an appearance, such as Bullet Bill, Goomba, Lakitu, Koopa, etc., as well as brand new ones. The game has an overworld, like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.
New Features
New Super Mario Bros is very much like Super Mario Bros., but new features have been added. One feature that's new is that this game brings a 3-D move into the 2-D world— the Wall Jump! This technique lets the player reach new areas for more exploring! Mario will have the ability to Ground Pound once again, so he can smash blocks downward. With alot of Mario remakes, there are different power-ups, like the Blue Koopa Shell that lets Mario travel like a kicked Koopa Troopa shell, the Mega Mushroom that makes the player grow about five times Mario's size(Also seen in Super Mario 64 DS), and the Mini Mushroom which causes Mario to grow super small. However, some items reamin unchanged, such as Super Mushroom, and the Fire Flower.
The game also features a world map, different and secret paths (like Super Mario World), and a multiplayer mode where the player and another mate can have a friendly battle between Mario and Luigi, or the players can work together. the player also have the ability to store a power-up on the touch-screen after Mario or Luigi already have a power-up.
One odd thing about this game is that there are eight worlds, but Mario/Luigi only have to go through six of them—the game jumps the player from World 3 to 5 and World 6 to 8 automatically. Mario or Luigi must defeat the World 2 and/or 5 bosses in Mini mode to instead reach Worlds 4 and 7, respectively.
Also new are Star Coins. There are three to a level, usually adding an extra challenge to each level. Some are in clear sight while others are hidden in warp pipes and other inconspicuous places. On the world map, signs block paths that require five Star Coins to open. After a player defeats Bowser and Bowser Jr. in Bowser's Castle, a new, mysterious blue Toad House will appear just above World 1. It is a market, and for 20 Star Coins, the player can buy a wallpaper for the bottom screen. The fifth and final background is only available after all of the 40 Star Coin Gates have been opened.
Another secret is Challenge Mode. This means the player cannot scroll the screen to the left or downward. To unlock it, go to the map screen (any world) and press START, L, R, L, R, X, X, Y, Y. It will also show an arrow pointing right on the world maps and levels touch screen. This means that you cannot turn back in all the courses except castles, which adds the feeling of the original game even more.
[edit] Story
Mario and Princess Peach were walking together around Peach's Castle, when a mysterious thundercloud appears near Peach's Castle, and struck the castle with lightning (the thundercloud might have been the 7th boss, Lakithunder). Mario went to investigate, and while he was there, Bowser Jr. sneaks up behind a bush and kidnapped Princess Peach! Mario followed, and Bowser Jr. dragged her behind him through eight different worlds to get away from Mario.
The end of the first world has Bowser as its first boss, unusually. Even more surprising, after Mario presses a switch that destroys the floor and Bowser falls into the pit of lava, the king's flesh is burned off and he becomes a Dry Bones like version of himself (Known as Bowser Bones, or Dry Bowser). Later, at World 8, Mario has to face this undead version of Bowser as the second-last boss in the game. Bowser Bones falls into a pit, but Bowser Jr. found his father's bones, and he revives him by putting his remains into a bubbling cauldron of some magic potion, which results in not only Bowser returning from the dead, but growing roughly five times his size.
At the end, Bowser and his son fight Mario, but Mario defeats them again, sending the two into yet another pit. After the ending sequence, Bowser Jr. is shown dragging his unconscious father across the castle floor. When he notices the player watching him, he shouts something and then continues on with his task.

[edit] Trivia
An interesting note that usually isn't noticed is that in most levels the chorus in the music will make a "bah"-like sound, and almost all the enemies will do a dance move, and items will jump in the air. It's not helpful but it's funny when a long line of Koopas do a little side step and the Goombas hop to the background music all at the same time.
Wario and Yoshi are playable in the game in the mini-game mode.
The seven original Koopalings were said to appear in this game, however it was later said it was a mistake, however Bowser Jr. was still in it.
The "Grass Fields" Battle stage is made up of many parts of 1-1 in the original Super Mario Bros

Character of the week
blue yoshi
Blue Yoshi (also known as Dark Blue Yoshi) is a Yoshi that can fly when it has any color shell in its mouth in Super Mario World plus the shell power. In Yoshi's Story it's favorite fruit is grapes.
A Yoshi can become a Blue Yoshi if the Wing power-up is found in Super Mario World, accessing a bonus stage that automatically ends the level whenever Mario and the Yoshi fall. In addition, the Yoshi stays blue after the level ends. A baby Blue Yoshi can be found in the underwater Star Road 2 stage.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island they're playable on the eighth level of every world (boss castle), except for 6-8: King Bowser's Castle, in which Green Yoshi takes his place.
In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi can change colors every time he performs a Rolling Egg Return, provided the player has completed the Flower Cup with any character. One of the colors that Yoshi can turn is blue.
Appearance
In Super Mario World, Blue Yoshi, like the other yoshis in that game, had blue skin, but orange arms, brown shoes and a brown saddle.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Blue Yoshi looked about the same as he did in Super Mario World, but with orange shoes and an orange saddle. However in the Gameboy Advance remake, Blue Yoshi wore pink shoes.
From Yoshi's Story and on, Blue Yoshi had magenta shoes and a red saddle.

shy guy beach
Shy Guy Beach is race track that appears in the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart: Super Circuit. It is the second course in the Mushroom Cup. While there are no Shy Guys on the beach, there is a Pirate Guy pirate ship that can be seen in the background. Crabs litter the beach, making karts spin out on contact. Shallow water causes racers slow down while deep water completely submerges karts. There are some shortcuts usually involving small islands.
